Compared September 2026
The best social skills apps, honestly compared
The best social skills apps for adults do three things: teach a specific move, make you practise it out loud, and fit into a day you already have. We compared eight apps on exactly that. Volo is ours, so read the table with that in mind; the other apps are described as fairly as we can, with links so you can check.

How to choose
Pick the app that makes you say the words
Reading about social skills feels like progress and mostly is not. If an app only shows you tips, it is a book with a streak. Look for three things: a way to practise out loud, feedback that quotes what you actually said, and a daily plan short enough that you will still be doing it in week three. Then pick the one whose tone you can stand. Some are gamified and loud; Volo is calm and adult on purpose.
Questions
Fair questions
What is the best social skills app for adults?
It depends on what you need. For a daily habit that combines lessons, AI roleplay and out-loud speaking practice on iPhone, Volo. For a gamified Duolingo-style feel on Android, Gleam. For presentation analytics, Yoodli or Orai. For roleplay only, Talkville or CharmXP.
What is the best app to improve communication skills?
Apps that make you practise out loud beat apps that only teach. Volo, Yoodli and PatterAI all record you; Volo pairs that with 79 lessons and 25 roleplays covering everyday and work conversations.
What is the best app for social anxiety?
For learning the techniques and rehearsing privately, Volo's social anxiety track and Talkville's roleplays are both low-pressure. Neither is therapy. Dedicated CBT apps and a professional are the right route for clinical social anxiety.
Is there a Duolingo for social skills?
Gleam markets itself that way and Volo is often described that way by users. Both use short daily lessons and streaks. Volo adds spoken AI roleplay, speaking drills with pace and filler feedback, and a script library.
Which social skills apps are free?
Most have a free tier or trial. Volo's free tier includes the first lesson of each skill, one roleplay, one speaking drill, sample scripts and the full How You Come Across test. Yoodli and Orai have free tiers with usage limits.
