The best Charisme alternative in 2026 is Volo if you want to practise the situations that make you anxious out loud and be told what worked. Charisme is a gamified, therapy-informed training app; the alternatives below cover gentler roleplay, lesson plans built on the same therapy methods, and scenario drills for people who are not ready to speak yet.
What is the Charisme app?
Charisme is a gamified social anxiety app from Berlin. Its site describes a Duolingo-style approach, content taken from the social skills training used in cognitive behavioural therapy and adapted by psychologists, and daily challenges for real life. As of November 2026 the site does not list platforms or pricing; the store listings we found were on Android stores, and we could not find an App Store listing.
Why look for a Charisme alternative?
The usual reasons are platform and practice. If you are on iPhone and cannot find it, you need something else. And if you have done the lessons and want to actually rehearse a conversation, with a character who pushes back and feedback on your words, you need an app built around practice rather than challenges and quizzes.
How we compared
We installed and used each app, then checked what we saw against its published features as of November 2026 on four points: whether the app is designed with anxious users in mind, whether it makes you practise speaking, whether its feedback is about what you did, and what it says about its limits.
1. Volo
Volo is the best alternative for rehearsing specific moments. It is a mobile app whose 25 AI roleplay scenarios each give you a scene, a character and three goals. You can type if speaking feels like too much, then switch to speaking when you are ready, and the coach afterwards marks each goal and quotes the lines you said. The scenarios are the ones anxious people avoid: joining a conversation full of strangers, introducing yourself at a party, reconnecting with an old friend, pushing back at work.
The seven lesson tracks include Controlling Nerves and Breath and Body Techniques, and the app is free to download and try. Volo is explicit that it is practice, not therapy.
Limitation: It does not include a CBT programme.
Best for: low-stakes repetitions of the exact situations you dread. Volo on the App Store · Social anxiety with Volo
2. Talkville
Talkville is AI roleplay designed for people with social anxiety. Talkville is a fictional town of characters for rehearsing dates, interviews, networking and small talk, and its low-stakes framing is the point. It is roleplay-first, with less teaching and less measured feedback than Volo.
Best for: the gentlest way to start talking.
3. fredie
fredie is the closest match to Charisme’s therapy-based lessons. fredie lists adaptive lessons on small talk, saying no, overthinking and letting people in, built on cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness and interpersonal therapy, with exercises to try in daily life. It runs on iPhone and Android.
Best for: CBT-informed lessons, and Android.
4. Chatterfly
Chatterfly is conversation practice with a coach that intervenes. Chatterfly says it is built for neurodivergent, introverted and socially anxious users, with modules on starting conversations, small talk, suggesting plans and resolving conflict, and an AI coach that pauses to guide you when you get stuck.
Best for: people who freeze mid-conversation and want help in the moment.
5. Socially
Socially is a daily plan with scenario practice. Socially describes short daily lessons with scenario practice and AI feedback, observation exercises, reflection prompts and micro-actions, with a path that can be set to overcoming social anxiety.
Best for: a structured daily routine on iPhone.
6. Altiora
Altiora is for working through situations before speaking. Altiora gives you a social situation and four responses, explains the best one, and tracks progress across seven modules. There is no speaking and no AI chat, which some anxious users prefer as a first step.
Best for: understanding the right move before you practise it aloud.
How do the Charisme alternatives compare?
Volo is the only app in this comparison with spoken roleplay, goals per scene and feedback that quotes your lines.
| App | Built for anxious users | Makes you speak | Feedback on your words | Platform |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Charisme | Yes | No | Challenges and progress | Android stores |
| Volo | Practice for it | Yes, or type | Yes, quotes your lines | iPhone, Android |
| Talkville | Yes | Yes, or type | Light | iPhone |
| fredie | Yes | No | Light | iPhone, Android |
| Chatterfly | Yes | Yes | Review after each session | iPhone |
| Socially | Partly | Scenario practice | AI feedback | iPhone |
| Altiora | Partly | No | Explains the right move | iPhone |
Which Charisme alternative should you pick?
Pick Volo if you are ready to rehearse the real situations and want to know exactly what to change. Pick Talkville if you need the softest possible start. Pick fredie if the therapy-based lesson format is what drew you to Charisme. If anxiety is limiting your life, see the best CBT apps for social anxiety and talk to a clinician; none of these apps is treatment.
