A social skills coach for adults is a person who works with you, one-to-one or in a small group, to set goals for conversation and confidence, find what holds you back, and practise between sessions. Published prices are rare: most coaches quote on enquiry, and the one clear figure we found is $300 for a 55-minute call, as of September 2026.

What does a social skills coach do?

A social skills coach sets goals with you, finds the sticking points and gives you things to practise. Typical parts of the work are:

  • An assessment or intake conversation to find your goals.
  • Role-play of conversations you find hard.
  • Feedback on what you said and how it came across.
  • Homework, such as starting one conversation a day, before the next session.

One published coach describes three phases: determine your goals, identify the roadblocks, and work through them with skill-building, confidence exercises or cognitive reframing. Another lists reviewing recent social experiences, role-playing conversations and building action plans for real situations.

How much does a social skills coach cost?

Most social skills coaches do not publish prices and quote on enquiry. The published examples we found, as of September 2026, are:

Provider Format Published price
Improve Your Social Skills One-to-one, 55-minute call $300 per call, $250 per call in a bundle of four
New Frontiers One-to-one, group and specialised programmes over Zoom Not published; free discovery call
Social Skills Center Weekly online groups, 30-minute intake Not published on the page; contact them

The first provider also lists a limited number of discounted sessions at $150 for clients in financial need. Costs vary by coach, session length and whether you choose private or group support. Ask what a session includes and how many you are likely to need before you commit.

What formats are available?

Coaching comes as private sessions, group programmes or a mix, and most are now on video.

Private sessions suit specific goals and give you undivided attention. Groups give you real people to practise with, and some match members by age and level of functioning. Frequency is often every other week for private sessions and weekly for groups.

Who is a coach a good fit for?

A coach suits you if you want another person to notice what you do and tell you, and you can commit to a run of sessions. If your main issue is anxiety that stops you leaving the house, or another health condition, start with a licensed clinician instead. For a self-paced route, see social skills training for adults.

Where does Volo fit?

Volo fits as private daily practice between coaching sessions, or in place of them if you want to start on your own. It is a mobile app with 7 skill tracks, 79 lessons of 2 to 4 minutes, and 25 AI roleplay scenarios you can type or speak. The coach grades three goals and quotes your own lines back to you. A free 12-question How You Come Across test is included.

The limits are clear. Volo is not a human coach, it does not know your history, and its feedback is not tailored to you the way a person’s can be. It has no Android version. See social skills with Volo or Volo on the App Store.
