Is the Dale Carnegie Course worth it?

The Dale Carnegie Course is worth considering if you want a live, instructor-led programme with a fixed schedule, and it is a poor match if you want cheap, flexible, self-paced practice.

What is the Dale Carnegie Course?

The Dale Carnegie Course is a group training programme on confidence, communication and leadership skills. Dale Carnegie’s site presents it as a course delivered by local training providers, and the details below come from its published course pages. See dalecarnegie.com.

How is the course delivered?

The course runs in live sessions on a fixed schedule. They also describe a Learn from Anywhere option, where you pick the training room or a live online session each time.

What does the Dale Carnegie Course cost?

We cannot give a verified price. Dale Carnegie’s course pages, as far as we could read them, do not publish one, and prices are handled by local providers. Ask for a written quote and what it includes before you commit. A course of this kind costs far more than a Toastmasters membership or an app subscription, so the comparison is about format, not price.

What do you actually get?

You get a cohort, an instructor and a schedule. That combination is the point: you show up, you speak, and someone leads the room. For people who never finish self-paced material, a paid, scheduled commitment can be the thing that works.

Dale Carnegie Course	Toastmasters	Speaking apps
Format	Instructor-led course	Member-run club	Self-paced, on your phone
Duration	8 or 12 weekly sessions, or 3 days	Ongoing membership	Ongoing
Feedback	From an instructor and group	Peer evaluation	Automated
Published price	Not found	$72 semiannual dues plus $25 fee	Varies by app

What don’t you get?

You do not get flexibility, and you do not get a published price to compare. The course has an end date, so practice after it is up to you. Weekly sessions need a clear diary for the length of the course.

Who should take the Dale Carnegie Course?

Take it if you want a programme with an instructor and a start and end date, and if an employer or a budget makes the cost reasonable. It suits people who commit better when they have paid for a seat and have other people expecting them.

Who should skip it?

Skip it if you want to practise a few minutes a day, if you need a known price up front, or if you are working on a single talk this week. A club or an app is a lighter first step.

Where does Volo fit?

Volo fits as the light, private option. It is an iPhone app with 7 skill tracks, 79 lessons of 2 to 4 minutes, 25 AI roleplay scenarios you can type or speak, and Announcer Studio: 15 read-aloud scenes of 60 to 75 seconds that measure words per minute, filler-word count and longest pause, with a coach note. The Gate Announcer scene is free.

Volo is for everyday conversation and short daily drills. It is not an instructor-led course, not an in-person group, and not on Android. See Toastmasters vs Dale Carnegie, the best public speaking practice apps or public speaking with Volo. Volo on the App Store
